THERAPYFRIENDS AND THE LONELINESS EPIDEMIC

TherapyFriends began with the idea of tackling loneliness. Research suggests it is a growing epidemic of its own kind, made more intense during Covid isolation.

But you don’t have to be in Covid to know that our different life stages bring about loneliness. One minute you were grieving over a lost, broken or ‘deleted’ relationship and the months went by and you found yourself on an island.

Or maybe children left the nest and as a couple you found yourself on an island.

Maybe you left university and found yourself in no man’s zone. Your friends went on to do something different and for one reason or another, ‘get togethers’ simply turned into a ritual, something to tell others when someone asked ‘what did you do on the weekend’?

Did you begin to work from home and loneliness became the strange blanket you found yourself enveloped in?

Loneliness is a strange thing-it colludes with our natural inclinations to withdraw from the social world with its many challenges.  The call of the social world is always a conflicted one-you need to be among others and yet, it tests you once you are among the many headed. But, at the end of the day, our social needs transcend all else. And there is a reward- research suggests that socialising improves mental and physical health. Memory remains more intact, playfulness adds quality years.

TherapyFriends and find-a-friend

The FIND A FRIEND facility is FREE of charge on TF. It works like a matching website-same as any friendship/dating site -only that we focus on finding a friend who has ‘mindful’ interests and enjoys using the mind but has feelings too.

Please sign up, complete your profile and find a friend on TherapyFriends. You will not find a better place to meet someone of your kind, if you are someone who likes ‘vibing’ with others – mind, feelings and spirit.

End of the day, I make no recommendations for any person, but yes, I have seen friends and family be those “better people” with some appropriate substances (including appropriately prescribed medications), an appropriate religion for them, “good-fit” therapy or counselling, or any combination therefrom.
